Taiwanese collectors drove much of the single-cask and independent-bottling trade over the past two decades, and distilleries on the other side of the world still price with that market in mind. Local production only became possible when the state liquor monopoly ended in 2002, and it proved a point quickly — subtropical maturation is aggressive enough that a malt of three or four years can drink like something much older. The list below is short, and the island's reputation rests on very few of the names on it.
